Mapping K-ESG Environmental Indicators to Visual Panels
How we translate K-ESG assessment category codes into consistent indicator panel layouts for submission and stakeholder communication.
K-ESG assessment submissions require environmental, social, and governance data in structured indicator formats. The assessment portal defines data fields — but visual presentation for stakeholder communication and internal review remains the filer's responsibility. Category codes as layout anchors
Each K-ESG environmental indicator carries a category code (E1 through E5 and sub-indicators). We build a master grid template keyed to these codes so that adding or removing indicators does not require redesigning the entire page. E1 (environmental management) indicators typically occupy header panels; E2 (resource circulation) and E3 (pollution) fill the central grid; E4 ( biodiversity) and E5 (climate) anchor the lower section.
Panel anatomy
Every indicator panel includes five zones: indicator code and title, current-year value with unit, three-year trend sparkline, benchmark or target reference line (when client provides data), and a one-line methodology note. Keeping this anatomy consistent means board members learn the panel language once and apply it across all categories.
Aspect ratio constraints
The K-ESG portal accepts specific upload dimensions for certain indicator attachments. Before designing stakeholder-facing panels, confirm whether the visual will also serve as a portal upload. We maintain separate export presets: portal-compliant dimensions and report-integrated layouts at full page width.
Colour semantics across E-categories
We assign a restrained palette by category group: oxidized green tones for E1 management indicators, steel blue-grey for E2 resource metrics, amber for E3 pollution, deep green for E4 biodiversity, and brass gold for E5 climate. These assignments remain consistent across all client commissions so that category recognition becomes automatic for repeat viewers.
Common pitfalls
Mixing absolute and intensity metrics in one panel row. Energy consumption (absolute) beside energy intensity (normalised) invites false comparison. Separate rows or add clear normalisation footnotes.
Omitting data availability flags. When an indicator is not applicable or data is unavailable, the panel should state this explicitly rather than showing a blank space. Blank panels read as missing work to assessment reviewers.
Overcrowding trend sparklines. Three years is sufficient for K-ESG context. Five-year trends belong in annual report chapters, not assessment indicator panels where space is constrained.
When to commission external production
If your indicator list exceeds 15 environmental panels and your internal team lacks chart production capacity before the assessment window, external visual production typically costs less than the staff overtime required to meet the same deadline — particularly when revision rounds with your assurance provider are likely.
